For the second time in two weeks, the Ankeny girls’ swimming team got a chance to compete at the Waukee Natatorium–one of the best swimming facilities in the state.
The result of the meet turned out to be similar.
Ankeny dropped a 112-74 decision to Waukee in a CIML Conference meet on Monday. Coach Dustin Rhoads’ team had opened the season on Sept. 1 with a 106-80 loss to Waukee Northwest in the same pool.
The highlight of the night for Ankeny came in the 200 individual medley, where it swept the top three places. Allie Kearney won the event with a time of 2:23.08.
Kearney edged runner-up Piper Hedrick, who was clocked in 2:23.22, by just .14 seconds. Rowen Hutzell was third in 2:24.13.
Maggie Blackmore provided Ankeny’s only other victory in the 200 freestyle, where she posted a time of 2:01.61. She later took second in the 500 freestyle in 5:26.38.
Charlie Villhauer placed second in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.39. Her sister, Holland, finished third in the same event in 1:03.66.
Abigail Brugman contributed a pair of third-place finishes. She posted times of 26.28 in the 50 freestyle and 58.67 in the 100 freestyle.
Kearney added a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke. She was clocked in 1:06.03.
Hutzell finished third in the 100 breaststroke. She turned in a time of 1:14.71.
Ankeny’s Kambelle Subbert placed third in the diving event. She posted a score of 204.75 points.
The unbeaten Warriors improved to 2-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall. Ankeny’s records dropped to 1-2 and 5-2.
The team’s divers will return to Waukee on Saturday for the Waukee Invitational. It is a state qualifying meet.
