The Ankeny Centennial boys’ golf team began a busy week by shooting a 327 in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Monday at River Valley Golf Course in Adel.
The Jaguars finished their CIML regular season schedule with a 2-6 record after falling to both fourth-ranked Waukee Northwest and No. 5 Southeast Polk. The Wolves posted a 291 total to edge the Rams by two strokes.
Northwest improved to 6-0 in the conference and remained tied with Dowling Catholic (7-1) for the league lead. Southeast Polk finished its season at 6-2.
The Wolves can clinch the outright CIML title by sweeping Johnston and Waukee on Tuesday at Jester Park. Centennial, meanwhile, will head to Veenker Golf Course in Ames for the Turk Bowman Invitational before competing in the CIML Conference meet on Thursday at Copper Creek.
Zachary Lazear, Austin Trosper and Julian Potthoff made their varsity debuts for the Jaguars on Monday.
“This meet was the same as the Valley Classic (on Sept. 21),” said Centennial coach Andrew Reedy. “It was an extra event, so we played some kids to give them an opportunity.”
Nathan Grider shot an 80 to lead Centennial. Bennett Lewis fired an 81, Lazear had an 82, Ricky Beckwith carded an 84, Trosper had an 87, and Potthoff added a 91.
Northwest’s Grant Sorrel carded a 5-under-par 67 to earn medalist honors.
