Ankeny seniors Kambelle Subbert and Isla Corron are headed to next week’s state diving meet.
Subbert placed fourth in a regional meet on Thursday at the Waukee Natatorium with 326.25 points. Corron took fifth with 319.75.
“We are very excited and happy for Kambelle and Isla!” said Ankeny girls’ swimming coach Dustin Rhoads. “They have both overcome a lot of adversity this year and over their diving careers.”
Aubrie Holder of Grinnell won the regional title with 412.10 points, finishing about 20 points ahead of teammate Cora Kellogg. Those two will be seeded third and fourth, respectively, at the state meet.
Subbert is the No. 24 seed among the 32 qualifiers. She also advanced to state as a junior, when she placed 27th.
Corron is the No. 30 seed for state, which will be held on Nov. 12 at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation & Wellness Center in Iowa City.
“We knew it would be close for both of them to make it, but we also knew if they did what they are capable of they would be just fine,” Rhoads said. “We wanted them to be confident and consistent. They both dove season bests and made it to state which was the goal! Lydia Beenen also finished a great senior season just off her best but still scored points for the team. We are very proud of these three seniors.
“We now can carry this momentum into (Saturday) at our home pool! The message to the girls is simple: be confident and go for it! It will be fun!” he added.
The swimming portion of the regional meet will be held on Saturday at Trail Point Aquatics Center, beginning at noon.
