Revive Clinic and Spa Prep of the Week: Brody Brecht, Ankeny football

September 16, 2019 by Dan Holm

Junior receiver Brody Brecht caught seven passes for 121 yards and also had an interception Friday in the Ankeny football team’s 28-27 loss to Cedar Falls at the UNI-Dome.

Brecht, who has 14 catches for 330 yards and one touchdown in three games, has become one of the state’s top prospects in the Class of 2021. He is also being heavily recruited in baseball.

Here is some inside info on Brecht:

Can you describe what it was like to play at the UNI-Dome? Was it what you expected?

It was really cool to play there. The air was a little dry in there though, so we had to get used to that. But yes, I thought it would be a good experience and it was.

You limped off the field after an incomplete pass during the second quarter. Did you just tweak your knee a little bit?

I just came down on my ankle a little weird, but it was just a little sprain.

You had a big interception to halt a Cedar Falls drive in the second half. Can you describe what happened on that play?

They ran a screen play and Brecken (Manus) tipped the ball in the air kind of and I dove and came down with it.

When was the last time that you had an interception?

I can’t remember. It’s been a while, haha.

The team has been using you on defense occasionally this season. Do you like playing both ways, and do you think you could do it full time if coach Nelson asked you to do it?

Yes, it’s fun to play both ways and get involved in the game more. If coach needed me to play both ways full time, I would do it.

I know you’d obviously like to get back to the UNI-Dome in November for the Class 4A semifinals. If you can, how much do you think your team will benefit from having played a game at the dome?

I think it will benefit us a lot because we’ll be used to the air in there and the turf they have.

I’ve heard some people compare you to former Iowa State star Allen Lazard and current Iowa receiver Oliver Martin. Have you heard those comparisons, and if so, how did it make you feel?

Yeah, I’ve heard them and am really honored to be compared to two great receivers, but I want to be the best player I can be and make a name of my own.

You told me earlier last week that you weren’t going to attend the Cy-Hawk game. Did you just watch it at home?

Yes, we just had friends over and watched the game.

I know you’ve been offered a scholarship by both programs. So were you just rooting for a good game?

Yes, I just wanted both teams to be successful and make it a great game.

What did you think of ESPN GameDay having Eric Church as the celebrity guest picker?

I didn’t think it would be him, but it was a good pick.

Favorite NFL receiver?

Deandre Hopkins.
