Weston Fulk and the Ankeny baseball team are back on the winning track.

Fulk had a huge night at the plate as the top-ranked Hawks swept a doubleheader at Mason City on Tuesday in their CIML Iowa Conference opener. He went 5-for-8 in the twinbill with four extra-base hits and four RBIs.

Ankeny posted an 11-2 victory in the opener, then completed the sweep with a 10-4 triumph. The Hawks evened their overall record at 3-3, while Mason City dropped to 2-4.

Fulk went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs in the first game. Cael Boyd and Tamden Webb-Tate each doubled and drove in two runs.

The Hawks scored four runs in the fourth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit. They added two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, Dylan Schlee (1-1) shut down the Mohawks the rest of the way. He tossed a four-hitter and had six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Ankeny scored two runs in the fourth inning to break a 4-4 tie. The Hawks added three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.

Colin Riggs went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Fulk went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and one RBI.

Carter Smith and Kade Somers each went 2-for-4 in the win. Jase Bauer went 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI.

Brody Brecht (2-0) had 12 strikeouts over the first six innings to earn the win. He allowed three earned runs on four hits, including a homer by Connor Dalen.

Brecht also doubled and drove in a run.

The Hawks will play a non-conference doubleheader at No. 7 Dowling Catholic (5-1) on Wednesday.
