The Ankeny wrestling team is ninth in Class 3A in the preseason rankings from IAwrestle.com. The Hawks boast eight ranked individuals, while Ankeny Centennial has six.
Ankeny’s highest ranked wrestler is two-time state champion Trever Anderson. Anderson, who won the 106-pound title as a freshman in 2019 and the 120-pound crown last season, is ranked second at 126.
Cade Bennethum is ranked third at 182 after placing fourth at that weight last season. Other ranked Hawks are JJ Maihan, seventh at 113; Ben Hansen, seventh at 120; Carter Davis, 11th at 138; Jace Anderson, seventh at 145; Will Hinrichs, ninth at 195; and Nate Nessa, ninth at 220.
Carter Cahill is Centennial’s highest ranked wrestler. Cahill is fourth at 160 after placing fifth at that weight as a junior.
Other ranked Jaguars are Cody Vandermark, ninth at 106; Cael Wiener, seventh at 126; Lucas Bruhl, fifth at 132; Drew Dunn, 12th at 145; and Jackson Helmkamp, seventh at 152.
