The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team closed out the regular season in style.
The 10th-ranked Jaguars posted a 9-2 victory over visiting Fort Dodge on Wednesday. They finished 4-2 in the CIML Iowa Conference and improved to 7-3 overall under first-year coach Alli Gustafson.
“It was fun for the girls to end the season with a great win,” said Gustafson, whose team has won its last five dual meets. “We finally had some great weather, and all of the girls played very well. Even in the two matches we lost, the girls battled until the last point and those two matches just didn’t fall our way. There has been a major improvement from the beginning of the season in all of the team, from varsity and JV alike.”
Centennial won five of the six singles matches and four of the five doubles matches. The Dodgers dropped to 1-4 and 1-6.
The Jaguars will play in a Class 2A regional singles and doubles tournament on Wednesday at Valley.
“Now we are eager and getting excited for postseason play!” Gustafson said.
