The Ankeny girls’ golf squad placed 16th among 17 teams in the Lamson Invitational on Monday at Willow Creek Golf Course.
The Hawkettes posted a score of 420.
“It was great to finally have a nice day to play golf,” said Ankeny coach Kelley Emke. “Our team score was not our best of the season, but we did see some great individual improvements.”
Ames shot a 335 to easily win the meet. Indianola was second with a 356, finishing one stroke ahead of Marshalltown.
Marshalltown’s Natalie Henson carded a 3-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors. She made an eagle on the par-5, No. 18 hole.
Emersen Motl of Ames was the runner-up with a 76. Teammates Elizabeth Duncan and Leah Becker also earned top-12 finishes in a field of 98 golfers.
Isabella Ross shot a 93 to lead the Hawkettes. Ava Sesker fired a 107, Addison Smith had a 109, and Aubree Moeller added a 111.
“Willow can be a tough course with the large trees and wooded areas,” Emke said. “Many girls made some small improvements to their scores. We continue to focus on each shot and doing what we can to improve a little bit each day.”
Tuesday’s CIML Conference triangular meet against Johnston and Urbandale at the Urbandale Golf and Country Club has been postponed due to a rainy forecast. The Hawkettes will host the Toni Dickey Invitational on Thursday at Otter Creek.
