
The Ankeny Centennial boys’ track team earned four victories in the Dragon Invitational on Tuesday at Johnston. No team scores were kept at the meet.
The Jaguars posted a 1-2 finish in the shot put. Max Dickinson won the event with a throw of 52 feet 3.5 inches, while teammate Gavin Humphrey set a personal record of 52 feet while placing second.
Caleb Larson added a runner-up finish in the discus. He recorded a toss of 140-4.
On the track, Braeden Jackson won a tight race in the 100, where the top four finishers were separated by less than .04 seconds. Jackson crossed the finish line in 10.83, setting a personal record and edging Emmanuel Gaye of Southeast Polk by .01 seconds.
The battle for third place was even closer–where the margin between Fredrick Tarasid Tarawally of Southeast Polk and Centennial’s Noah Ross was just one-thousandth of a second. Ross finished fourth in 10.867, which also set a personal record.
The Jaguars got a more comfortable win from Robert McGhee in the 200. He posted a time of 22.43 to finish .37 seconds ahead of runner-up Xavier Bernstine of Waukee Northwest.
Centennial’s other victory came in the 3,200. Brayden Vander Wilt captured that event in a time of 10:09.81, winning by nearly 40 seconds.
Cael Woods placed second in the 110 hurdles in 15.15 seconds. Cohen Moll was the runner-up in the 1,600, posting a time of 4:26.08.
Woods also ran on the second-place shuttle hurdle relay. He teamed up with Gavin Matheny, Nic Ryan and Mark Nelson to post a time of 1:02.58.
The Jaguars also placed second in the sprint medley relay. The team of Henry Akers, Chase Kluver, Rex Jensen and Isaac Porter was clocked in 1:43.95.
