Hawks open season with 4th-place finish on challenging Waveland course

A pair of sophomores made impressive debuts for the Ankeny boys' golf team on Thursday. Dylan Taylor carded a 79 and Joey Newton added an 83 to help the Hawks to a fourth-place finish in the Des Moines Roosevelt Invitational at Waveland Golf Course. Taylor placed ninth as an individual. Ankeny freshman Schrader commits to play volleyball for Notre Dame

Last Sunday, the Notre Dame women's basketball team captured the NCAA Division I national championship. Perhaps someday Phyona Schrader will lead the Irish to a national title in volleyball. Miranda Greathouse recalls watching Jordyn Rittman help the Ankeny Centennial volleyball team to the Class 5A state title in 2014. Now, Greathouse will have an opportunity to learn from Rittman. Ankeny football players Drew Hill, A.J. Jackson and Dayne Kajewski were all looking for the right fit in a college. They each found it.
