Senior Night could not have gone any better for the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team.
The Jaguars shot a 182 on Wednesday to defeat Waukee and Urbandale in a CIML Conference triangular meet at Briarwood Golf Club. The Warriors posted a 188 total, while the J-Hawks finished with a 216.
“It was a night where it seemed like everything finally clicked!” said Centennial coach Marty Kiepe, whose team is now 2-4 in the conference. “It’s always nice to get in the win column. Our first conference victories of the year are a great way to send off our seniors who have helped welcome me to the program.”
Waukee’s Gretta Secory carded a 3-over-par 40 on the back nine to earn medalist honors. Centennial’s Cate Trewet fired a 44 to claim runner-up honors for the third time this season.

“Cate had another scrappy round where she strung together some great shots to keep the score down,” Kiepe said.
Teagan Skinner and Gretta Borich each fired a 45 for the Jaguars. They placed third and fourth overall, respectively.
“On Teagan’s Senior Night, it was great to see her put together her new season low,” Kiepe said. “After a tough day (Tuesday) it would’ve been easy to throw in the towel, but she came back with a great attitude and posted a really good score for us.”

Borich, meanwhile, was struggling with her swing before the meet.
“About an hour before her tee time, she would’ve told you she forgot how to swing the golf club,” Kiepe said. “Luckily for us, it’s hard to find her without a smile on her face. We were able to get her fixed up, and she went out and shot her new personal best.”
Kyler Jones provided Centennial’s fourth score on her Senior Night. She carded a 48.
“Kyler had a steady round held together by a few long putts to help lead to a new season best score,” Kiepe said. “She is a calm and collected one who always has the same smirk whether the round is going really good or really bad.”

Madi Trosper and Maddy Gochoel each finished with a 53.
“That 182 is a new season low for us, and it’s nine strokes better than last week at an easier and shorter Willow Creek,” Kiepe said. “Managing to put all of this together on the back nine at Briarwood was impressive, and it’s a testament to the work the girls have put in.”
Waukee is now 3-3 in the conference after earning a split. Urbandale’s record dropped to 0-6.
The Jaguars will compete again on Thursday for the third consecutive day, traveling to Marshalltown for the Linda Bloom Invitational at Elmwood Country Club.
