Centennial golfers in 9th place after blustery opening round at state meet
The opening round of the boys' Class 4A state golf meet was played in cold and blustery conditions. Unfortunately, the weather may not be much better on Saturday. Senior Drake Ellgren is the top returning player for the Ankeny Centennial boys' golf team. He placed fourth on the squad a year ago with a 40.7 average. Ellgren helped the Jaguars to a 3-2 record. Ankeny’s Johnson shoots 72, qualifies for state as individual
Ankeny sophomore Hunter Johnson wasn't ready to put his golf clubs away just yet. Johnson carded a 72 in a Class 4A district meet on Tuesday at Waveland Golf Course to qualify for the state meet as an individual. The Ankeny Centennial boys' golf team finished in the middle of the pack at the Iowa City West Invitational on Monday. The Jaguars opened their season by placing fifth among 10 teams at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside. They posted a score of 330.
