Hawks dominate doubles, open league play with 7-4 victory at Fort Dodge

A strong performance in doubles allowed the Ankeny boys' tennis team to post a 7-4 victory at Fort Dodge in its CIML Iowa Conference opener on Monday. The two teams split the six singles matches. Some ideal weather conditions greeted the 10 teams that participated in the Ankeny Centennial Invitational girls' golf meet on Monday at Briarwood Golf Club. Jaguars compete against many of CIML’s top teams at Johnston Invitational

Monday's Johnston Invitational girls' tennis tournament featured many of the top teams in the CIML. Ankeny Centennial competed in the six-team event along with Dowling Catholic, Southeast Polk, Valley, Waukee and the host Dragons. The fifth-ranked Ankeny boys' soccer team remained unbeaten with a pair of victories on Saturday at the Urbandale Invitational. Junior Esther Guan is the top returning player for the Ankeny Centennial girls' tennis team. She helped the Jaguars to a 9-3 record last season, including a trip to the Class 2A state team tournament. The Ankeny boys' track team placed fifth in the Brooks Relays on Saturday at Valley, while Ankeny Centennial finished eighth in the 11-team field. The opening coin flip proved to be a critical factor in Friday's boys' soccer game between Ankeny Centennial and visiting Norwalk.
