Johnson, Hawk golfers defend their crowns at Indianola Invitational

Hunter Johnson and the Ankeny boys' golf team defended their titles in the Indianola Invitational on Monday at the Indianola Country Club. Johnson carded a 74 to earn medalist honors for the second straight year. The seventh-ranked Hawks again won the team crown, shooting a 301. For the second time this season, the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial boys' golf teams posted identical scores in an 18-hole tournament. The Ankeny boys' golf team was missing its top player on Monday. Crosstown rival Ankeny Centennial was missing its head coach, and perhaps its focus as well. Eighteen holes weren't enough to separate the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial boys' golf teams on Tuesday at the Fort Dodge Invitational. Taylor shoots 35, leads Hawk golfers to victory over Dowling Catholic

Ankeny golfer Dylan Taylor badly missed a short putt for par on the No. 9 hole during Thursday's dual meet against Dowling Catholic at Otter Creek. It might have been his only bad shot of the day. The Ankeny boys' golf team struggled on one of the state's toughest courses Tuesday, dropping a 324-343 decision to host Ames in a dual meet at Veenker Golf Course.
