Opening day of state track meet marred by sweltering conditions

The heat took a toll Thursday on many of the athletes competing at the coed state track meet. With temperatures reaching a record 91 degrees at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, the sweltering conditions proved to be a huge obstacle for the competitors, regardless of the event. ‘Motivating’ Relays crowd helps Centennial hurdler to 5th-place finish

The times just keep getting faster for Ankeny Centennial hurdler Katie Petersen. The junior placed fifth in the 100 hurdles at the Drake Relays on Friday. She posted a time of 14.70 seconds. Hawkettes, Jaguars get final tune-up for Drake Relays

The Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial girls' track teams each had one final tune-up on Monday to help prepare for this week's Drake Relays. The Hawkettes placed second among eight teams in the Bobcat Invitational at Marshalltown. It will be a busy three days at the Drake Relays for the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial boys' and girls' track teams, who qualified for the meet in numerous events. Thursday's Chuck Silvey Invitational at Urbandale turned into a three-way battle for the girls' crown. In the end, Southeast Polk came away with the title, finishing with 105 points. Girls’ track meet cut short after Johnston hurdler suffers injury

Thursday's Johnston Quadrangular girls' track meet was cut short due to a mishap in the 100 hurdles.
